|
The city of Cordoba, capital
of the Province of Cordoba, is the second largest
city in Argentina. Due to its privileged location
in the center of the Argentine continental territory
-within easy reach of the Argentina interior -
Cordoba has become an important tourist, commercial
and industrial center. |
| This
colonial city is rich in history and culture,
and retains its provincial charm while offering
visitors the sophistication and amenities of a
large city. |
| The first Argentine
university and also one of the first bishoprics
were founded here. Cordoba offers a wide variety
of colonial buildings of interest such as the
Cathedral, University, Cabildo (Town Hall), Colegio
de Monserrat and plenty of varied Jesuit churches
in which you have the feeling that the inhabitants
of the colony are still there, beside you.
You can enjoy Cordoba’s
climate while you walk around the cozy pedestrian
walkways and heavily attended commercial shop
centers or sit in the several cafeterias where
friends meet to enjoy a relaxed time together.
It also presents attractive green spaces, like
the coast of the Suquia River and the popular
Sarmiento Park, where people go jogging, cycling
or even have a picnic while enjoying Cordoba sunny
days at any time of the year.
Visitors enjoy Cordoba’s vibrant environment,
the individuality of its residential neighborhoods,
and its wide selection of tourist, entertainment
and cultural opportunities. The people in Cordoba
are friendly and hospitable, and always willing
to socialize with foreigners. That is why studying
Spanish in Cordoba is a more culturally enriching
experience. |
| Cordoba’s
Nightlife |
The center of
Cordoba offers plenty of cinemas, theatres, shows,
restaurants, pizzerias, pubs and discos. Nueva
Cordoba, a residential neighborhood close to downtown
where most university students live, has an active
nightlife of its own until early hours in the
morning. Cerro de las Rosas, an elegant district
about 20 minutes from downtown also offers plenty
of fashionable cafés, restaurants and discos
where young people can have lots of fun. Cordoba
displays an important cultural life, with artistic
and cultural spectacle rooms as well. |
| The
Tango |
It started by the end of the
19th. Century as a mix of various rhythms danced
in the poorest quarters in Buenos Aires. First,
pairs of men danced it to the music of the flute,
violin, and guitar, the first of which was subsequently
replaced by the "bandoneón" (a
type of accordion), which gave it its distinctive
taste. Immigrants added their nostalgia and melancholy,
and so the tango was developed into what it is
today. Nowadays, the Tango can be danced not only
in Buenos Aires but also in any city of Argentina,
especially in Cordoba. |
| Sierras
of Cordoba
|
Cordoba also offers a region
of beautiful Sierras with hills of medium height,
valleys, plains and plateaus called pampas, crossed
by charming rivers, streams and lakes. The highest
peak, Mount Champaquí, towers some 2,790
meters above its surroundings. Its fertile valleys
contrast with deserts and saltpans, a particularly
appealing landscape.
The Sierras of Córdoba are dotted with
attractive tourist towns like Villa Carlos Paz,
Cosquín, La Falda, La Cumbre, Capilla del
Monte, Alta Gracia, Villa General Belgrano, La
Cumbrecita, Santa Rosa de Calamuchita and Mina
Clavero. Opportunities for outdoor activities
are many, from trekking, climbing, horseback riding,
mountain biking and skiing to paragliding and
water sports such as sailing, canoeing, rowing,
water skiing and windsurfing. You can enjoy golf
courses, race tracks, shows, and casinos in the
main holiday resorts, which host many events throughout
the year: folk music and dance festivals, regional
food festivals, arts and crafts exhibitions, theater
and traditional equestrian (gaucho) exhibitions,
theater and ballet performances, tango classes
and more.
Towards the North, scattered chapels and “estancias”
begin to appear. These constructions date back
to the 17th and 18th centuries, and many of them
are a Jesuit legacy. The estancias (ranches) are
remarkable because of their varied architecture.
Many of them have been transformed into tourist
accommodations. Visitors take part in the preparation
of the typical barbecue and also have a wide choice
of sports and recreation activities (horseback
riding, polo, golf, hunting, fishing and nature
observation). |
| The
Jesuit relics: |
| You can also visit several Jesuit
relics such as Capilla de Candonga and oratory of
the Jesuit estancia Santa Gertrudis. The UNESCO
has declared Jesuit estancias Santa Catalina, Jesús
María, Caroya, Alta Gracia and La Candelaria,
and the Jesuit block in the city of Cordoba, World
Cultural Heritage. |
| Prehistoric
paintings: |
| Explore ancient times as you visit
the Prehistoric paintings in Cerro Colorado Natural
and Archaeological Park. The Park is located to
the north of Cordoba and is a ceremonial center
for Comechingones and Sanavirones Indians, as well
as one of the country’s richest areas in prehistoric
paintings. |
| Quebrada
del Condorito National Park: |
Immerse yourself in wild scenery
in Quebrada del Condorito National Park, located
on the eastern side of Pampa de Achala.
The park’s highlights are its landscape and
geomorphologic value: the high pampas covered by
pastures, the rocky sierra without vegetation, and
the deep gorges. Within the park we find the gigantic
and spectacular crevice 800 m. deep and with a 1,500
m distance between the edges, vertical walls impossible
to climb, and the Condoritos River running through
its bottom.
This territory is the eastern most natural habitat
of the Condor, the coated eagle, and the peregrine
falcon. These huge birds inhabit and nest in this
zone, especially in the gorge. Excellent trout fishing
grounds abound in the streams around Quebrada del
Condorito and Panaholma River, both of them teeming
with brook trout. |
| Mount
Uritorco |
| Capilla del Monte is a beautiful
and attractive village lost in the sierras- today,
a progressive though quiet city. With Mount Uritorco
as its protector, Capilla del Monte gathers in its
proposal to the visitor a complete offer, because
it comprises an astounding landscape: colorful and
imposing sierras; multiform rocks and stones; and
crystal waters streams, rivers and lakes. Besides,
it offers hotels, gastronomy, and entertainment
services for all tastes and possibilities, as well
as a casino. The most
transcendental happening of the last decades both
at national and international level of Capilla
del Monte is founded on the enchantment and mystery
halo surrounding its maximum symbol: Mount Uritorco.
Especially due to its properties, it was the "landing"
scenary of ”visitors from the outer world",
for the "UFOS" investigators, and it
was also considered to have an abundant reservation
of energetic powers by others. |

in our Partner School located in San Carlos the
Bariloche in the Patagonian Region. |
| PATAGONIA |
| The Andes mountain
range shows its beauty in the Patagonian provinces.
Millennial silent forests with native vegetable
species are extended along the shores of glistening
waters. On top of the mountains, nature overflows
with granite peaks and ice fields spreading their
glacier tongues into lakes of unsurpassable beauty.
Imposing mammals and sea birds, halfway between
real life and fantasy, spend certain seasons on
the rough coasts of Patagonia where they complete
part of their life cycle. Seals colonies play
on the islets and sandbanks. The world’s
most important southern elephant seal continental
colony is located in Peninsula Valdés.
Every year, southern right whales come to Nuevo
and San José gulfs to breed. Patagonian
hares, “ñandúes” (South
American ostrich) and “guanacos” run
about the steppes, and the largest colony of Magellanic
penguins in the world is located in Punta Tombo.
This life cycle repeated since time immemorial,
unfolds itself in front of the astonished visitors’
eyes.
In the south, Tierra del Fuego and the World’s
southernmost city, Ushuaia, is the gateway towards
the vast and mysterious Antarctica. |
| Nahuel
Huapi National Park and San Carlos de Bariloche |
| Its glacial lake covers 560
square kilometers and its creeks reach into the
forests of the National Park named after it. On
its shore is San Carlos de Bariloche, a first-class
tourist center, where the well-known Cerro Catedral
winter resort and international ski center is,
and which offers an active cultural life. |
| Tours
